The vivacious and vibrant collages of SIMPLE FUTURE consolidate photographer and visual artist James Hornsby’s exploration of our digital and ‘real’ lives. Through his first solo exhibition Hornsby deconstructs the presumed ‘truth’ of photography and the industrial processes behind the advertising and media photographic industry.
His practice incorporates photography, painting, found objects and other media to produce layered collage, affixing photographic cutups to industrial surfaces including acrylic and aluminium. Hornsby adopts the digital manipulation and retouching techniques that distort and sexualise the human form in order to create something familiar but also disturbing. By combining digital and physical collage Hornsby’s collage constructions are layered – physically and conceptually. (Words by This Must Be The Place)
